AMERICANAFEST 2019
Tre Burt
Next up in our 2019 AmericanaFest Video Sessions is Sacramento-based folk up-and-comer, Tre Burt. Recently signed to John Prine’s Oh Boy Records, Burt performs three tracks: “Sammi's Song”, “Franklin’s Tunnel”, and the harmonica-accompanied “Last Hurrah”. Burt is featured using the M1 and running through the Venue DI.
Citing songwriting heroes like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, and Nina Simone, Burt’s soul and folk influences are extremely evident in his music and his “picturesque lyrics and impassioned vocals leave no question as to why a taste-maker like Prine sees promise in Burt's career” (Wide Open Country). Following his 2017 EP, Takes From The Dungeon, the new record incorporates harmony vocals and lush, acoustic instrumentation with Burt’s lo-fi sound.
Caught It From The Rye, Burt’s debut album will be re-released on Oh Boy Records on January 31st, 2020. The title track and accompanying music video are out now and the full record is available for preorder. Currently, Burt is on tour with Haley Heynderickx and will begin his solo tour in early 2020.
“It’s an astounding transmission of self,” writes American Standard Time. “Tre Burt with just harmonica, guitar, and the occasional backup singer, is writing, and singing about what a person lives through in these times. A poetic language all his own is achieved here. There are seemingly obtuse phrases that are capable of landing with pointed specificity. I’m talking trigonometric accuracy that is also, somehow, mathematically impossible.”
