Align Series Active DI
User’s Guide
Introduction
Building upon decades of experience creating studio-quality gear for the stage, the Align Active DI is the embodiment of LR Baggs engineering at its highest level and uses the most pristine circuitry we have developed in a DI. Our all-discrete design preserves the authenticity of your sound while providing high headroom for a wide range of signals. Equally at home on a pedalboard or standalone, we are excited to offer a DI with such a high degree of fidelity and functionality.
Getting Started
Power the Active DI with a 9V power supply, 9V battery, or 48V phantom power (a green light will indicate phantom power is being used).
Plug your instrument into the input to activate the Active DI (upper right hand side) and a cable into the ¼” output (upper left hand side) and/or the XLR output (on the back).
Plug the ¼” and/or XLR cable into your amp or PA and experiment with the DI.
Use the pad switch if necessary. Read section B in this manual for setting your pad to the appropriate level.
Top Features
A. Instrument Input
The ¼” input is an unbalanced (mono), all-discrete input. Plugging into the input will activate the Active DI, therefore, unplugging will turn the system off.
B. Pad
The pad switch is used to adjust the XLR output to 0dB (no change), -10dB, or -20dB. Adjust this depending on the needs of the PA or amplifier.
C. Ground Lift
Engage this switch to reduce or eliminate ground loop related noise.
D. Phase
Press this button to invert the phase. Usually, one phase will provide better sound and feedback resistance. With all acoustic instruments it is important to try both phases each time you set up, because phase is relative to your position on the stage.
E. Mute
Press the footswitch to mute the signal (Note: the mute will not affect the ¼” out when the Thru/Out switch is set to thru). The red LED will light up when the Active DI is muted. Press the footswitch again to un-mute your signal.
F. Thru/Out
When set to thru, the output completely bypasses all circuitry and sends an unaffected signal to the ¼” out. When set to out, the signal will be affected by all the controls. The XLR is not affected by this switch.
G. ¼” Output
The ¼” output is an unbalanced, line level output. You can plug into any amp or device that has a ¼” input.
H. XLR Output
The DI out is a balanced XLR output for connecting to a mixing board with an XLR (mic) cable.
Side View
A. DC Input
The DC power input is designed for a standard 2mm plug commonly used with effects pedals and “floor-box” products. Most power supplies or multi-power devices designed for musical products may be used. 9VDC recommended with a 12VDC maximum. Plugging in a power supply will activate the Active DI.
